About
Daniel Gerson
Daniel was a screenwriter best known for his work for Disney and Pixar movies such as Monsters, Inc., Monsters University, and Big Hero 6. Dan cared deeply about income disparity and equitable access to education. He lost his battle with brain cancer in 2016. Dan’s family and friends could think of no better way to celebrate Dan’s life than combining the key tenets of his values and principles by founding a non-profit organization to benefit filmmaking programs for underserved youth.

The Daniel Gerson Memorial Fund for the Arts has partnered with Reel Works in Brooklyn to create the Daniel Gerson Scholarship, providing access to the Narrative Lab. Narrative Lab students are empowered to write, produce, and direct original short films with the support of an individual mentor. Students are equipped with the vital skills they need to nurture careers in the film industry. Reel Works exemplifies the values that Dan held dear and we’re excited to help expand their life-changing programs.
